this is a secret story that even most of my close friends don’t know about me.
it’s currently saturday night. i’m feeling mighty nostalgic, and i decided “f-ik. i’ll just pay for the satellite radio online membership and let it rip.”
i had satellite radio in college which i always categorized as one of the three best investments i ever made (and wouldn’t you love to know what the other two are… )
well i have an undying love for channel 44, 1st wave, and every saturday night, starting at 8 pm and lasting til 4 am was the saturday night safety dance with dj bueller.
as i type this, i am listening to the show itself, currently playing the fixx’s one thing leads to another. it’s brilliant. but also sad. because it’s not the same.
i’m a homebody. i’m in bed by 10:00. but what people don’t know is on saturday nights, i use to put my pj’s on, go out in the dark of savannah, roll my windows down, and blast this show while i drove around for hours. it was my time.
i discovered sooooo many classics on this show. whenever i hear “vienna calling” by falco or “everything counts” by depeche mode or “big country” by big country, i instantely think back to one of those late saturday nights with the wind in my hair and listening to it for the first time while the orange glow would reflect on the moss and the scad kids were walking (and biking) drunkenly around the town.
those were the best. so thank you saturday night safety dance. thank you.

It’s somewhat comforting to learn that I’m not the only person who’s driven around for hours, with no destination, solely to listen to DJ Bueller and the Safety Dance. Thank you.
