2012 : music favourites

eco-christmas-618x443i was certainly more impressed with music from this year than lasts.  especially with a few albums that i thought were extremely solid from start to finish, examples being no doubt’s “push and shove” and bat for lashes “the haunted man.”

i felt like i was pretty much on the electric side of things this year, but not “too” electric, with a dash of indie, charm, and shoegazing thrown in.  get my drift?

so i’ve created a playlist that pretty much summed up the musical vibe of 2012 from my point of view with most of the songs being released this year or just on the cusp of it.  (pssssp- there’s a hidden scrollbar on the playlist, so don’t miss some goodies!!!)  hopefully you’ll find some new discoveries and favourites!!!

i know i’ve mentioned stevie nicks a few times on the blog, but right now i have such a girl crush on her.  she just screams badass.  i love her witchy ways and free spirit.  plus, she’s in a band- i mean, how cool is that!?  these pictures are so awesome and inspiring.

with summer vastly approaching, i’ve noticed a pattern in my music as of lately.  songs are a bit more light, more airy, they have chilled electronic beats or a 70′s folk pop vibe.  so i wanted to share my summer playlists with you.  dusk drives is a bit more indie with more synths and perfect for a night drive, bike rides is pretty sunshine-y and perfect for the outdoors.

i’ve officially declared my song of the summer fleetwood mac’s “rhiannon.”  i am completely obsessed with it, just the lyrics and the way it’s sung and the guitars and everything!  it floats my boat.  what’s on your summer playlist?

days off are rare for me to come by so i try to use them the best i can to regain my strength, inspiration, and clean the house, of course!

it’s so nice not to spend your day off going to the grocery store or taking your car to the shop or doing absolutely nothing at home! it’s nice to be relaxed and self focused and remember who you are and what your goals are.  I’ve found today to be consumed with this:

on the page: are you a jackie or a marilyn? by pamela keogh (which i’ve come to find that i’m both, but a maybe bit more on the marilyn side… ) the gospel according to coco chanel by karen karbo, and the december issue of matchbook magazine.

on the stereo: josephine baker, eartha kitt, and rosemary clooney

on the screen: some like it hot, the red shoes, and sabrina
