(via possumbane)

tis the season to be merry.

how were your holidays my loves?

i do apologize for not having blogged, but i took a mini break back home to tennessee (where internet connections do not exist.)  i do feel slightly bad, but it seems as if most bloggers have done the same.

my holiday was (mostly) peaceful.  the 12 hour drive down was actually quite lovely.  i don’t have my car here in new york city, and the very act of driving with music playing and watching the colours of the sky change is so completely wonderful after not having it for 6 months.  i honestly could have stayed in the car longer.

christmas day had beautiful snow flurries.  which is mostly all i ever dream of on christmas.  in the words of anne sexton,

“i am younger each year at the first snow.  when i see it, suddenly, in the air, all little and white and moving; then i am in love again and very young and i believe everything.”

while i was gone it seems as if new york city got the snow storm of the century, so i would rather not talk about my drive back to the city, as this blog is a place for only happy thoughts.

i will talk about gifts however.   what did you get?!?!?! i am always on the lookout for new and marvelous things.

upon my favourite gifts were:

a winter coat (but a real one, for skiers/new yorkers.  ha!)

a barbie calendar and stationary.

tickets from miss alicia to see the new york city ballet performance of swan lake!!!!!

um….. best gifts ever?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

there’s no grinch-ness coming from me, that’s for sure!!!!!!!!!

i hope your holiday was just as merry as mine!

un : it’s december!!!

i walked outside today and there were tiny white flurries in the air.  perfectly round, not wet, porcelain white flurries.  it was like a thousand bits of magic all around me.

deux: chocolate chip cookies.  why not?

trois : today i ate lunch at chick-fil-a… in new york city.  yes.  you read that correctly.

quatre : every version of these women’s bow bow flats

they’re so marie antoinette chic, aren’t they?

cinc : this photograph of marilyn monroe and arthur miller

six : cute dinosaurs

sept : pretty floppy hats

huit : i believe my next read will be one day by david nicholls (i’ve read his other book starter for ten and loved loved loved it!!!!! so funny!)

the plot, from amazon, is this : The episodic story takes place during a single day each year for two decades in the lives of Dex and Em. Dexter, the louche public school boy, and Emma, the brainy Yorkshire lass, meet the day they graduate from university in 1988 and run circles around one another for the next 20 years. Dex becomes a TV presenter whose life of sex, booze, and drugs spins out of control, while Em dully slogs her way through awful jobs before becoming the author of young adult books. They each take other lovers and spouses, but they cannot really live without each other.

neuf : even the starter for ten movie is brilliant!!

dix : mariah carey’s new christmas song oh santa

onze : songs from the morning glory soundtrack

hello lovely…

how i’ve missed you!!!

last friday went a little something like this…

the power went out and said it might not come back on until dec 26! (could you imagine?) thankfully it finally came on today (thus the reason i have not blogged lately.) my mother and i toughened it out as much as we could until it got a little “day after tomorrow-ish” in the house.  the temperature reader stopped working in the 40′s and you could start to see our breath in the house.  we lasted oh-so-long by this:

heck yes! we put the mattress next to the fire, and it was pretty cool! (until we started to turn into jack nicholson at the end of the shining once we ran out of fire wood…)

i hadn’t seen this much snow is years! so i went outside with some andrew bird and soaked it in for everything it was worth.

oh lovely little flurries…

so we spent the last day at the grandparents, giving us time to dethaw.  i looked at a lot of old photos (of them, of my mother, of myself, and great great family) i took some so i can scan them (but that is something you will get to see tomorrow!) all kinds of pretties, like this:

this is my ma-maw as a child.  i heart old photographs!!!

i also watched some movies i hadn’t seen in awhile.  like chances are with a very young robert downey jr.  he is oh-so-handsome!

i guess this is the girl in me who likes the bad boys…

i also watched while you were sleeping and am having some serious sweater-envy!!!

i want a sweater i can just build a house in and live forever!!! (via)

we watched one of my favourite films, the holiday.  cameron diaz’s wardrobe is smashing! (via)

i can not find that dress for the life of me (i am not giving up however!!!) if you know, please inform, til then the search continues.  i read miu miu did a lot of the wardrobe.  (and i approve!!!)

i bet you are missing your daily possumbane’s posterous photos.  well here you are my dear:

that panda one is for miss alicia.  and i am in some serious need of pushing daisies (i left my dvd’s at home!)  pushing daises makes me oh-so-happy-happy-happy (if you haven’t seen it, you must!!!!)

lastly, and shamelessly, i also watched mannequin, and why one would watch that film is beyond me, but i did slightly, kinda, really, embarrassingly, enjoyed this montage:

yes, i am so sorry i have been away.  but i have a lot of things to post this week! (wonderful, beautiful things) and i am excited for you to see them.

have a wonderful, safe, and happy holiday!!

xoxo.lindsay
