i’ve showcased kees van dijkhuizen’s [the film's of] series on the blog several times before with baz luhrmann, sofia coppola, and michel gondry. with this week’s addition of wes anderson, all he needs to do is woody allen and john hughes and my soul may be at rest.

there’s something about anderson’s work and i’m not sure how to pinpoint it.  everything seems more quiet, more simple, more yellow, haha.  it’s just a different way to look at situations. it took me several years to really become an anderson fanatic but i’m at the fanpoint where i really appreciate his viewpoints with the long dolly shots, or the crafty portrayal of a scene with strong, main quirky characters.

wes anderson once passed me on the street in new york and without thought or feeling i just started following him for several blocks.  there we were, on the street corner.  i smiled at him quietly because i felt like i knew his of secret of being someone important and also in a way brilliant.  okay, so it was a little creepy of me, but i didn’t approach him.  just quietly walked with him for several blocks.  *sigh*

i’m greatly anticipating this month’s release of moonrise kingdom. aren’t you?!?!?!  oh man.  such a genius!!

moonrise kingdom

i think it’s official to say that my top most looking forward too films of 2012 are moonrise kingdom, the hunger games, and titanic rereleased.

anderson can’t get more anderson than the muted 60′s colour palette, retro french tunes, and bill murray.  of course.  can not wait!

this is a post i’ve been wanting to do for some time.  after great thought and consideration, i’ve put together the guest list for my ultimate dream soiree. ambitious, but i dare to dream.  i find something completly fascinating in all of these people and am completely inspired by them (or attracted to them, ha!) i would love to hear everyone’s life stories and pick their brains for an evening.  i even carefully thought about the table setting and who might get along with who. (major nerd over here.)

narrowing the list to 20 was very difficult.  some people that would have also been invited, but i suppose didn’t r.s.v.p included william shakespeare, charlie chaplin, prince william and kate middleton, most of the snl males (any sandberg, jason sudeikis, and bill hader) robert downey jr., alan rickman dressed as snape, 80′s david bowie, wayne coyne, elle fanning, and fictional characters mr. darcy and ferris bueller.

i think idolizing can be a great thing and a terrible thing.  i suppose it’s okay when you recognize them as people and individuals who went after certain dreams and achieved them, instead of being a complete fan girl (though i have to admit, i’d probably make an @$$ out of myself in front of most of these people.)  who would be invited to your ultimate dream soiree?

though i admit that the majority of rushmore is grey skies and washed out colours, there are a few scenes in the film where the set design is impeccable.

for instance, the classic velvet curtains that display the month, or dr. guggenheim’s office with it’s hunter greens walls and rouge accents, as well as the dozens of gold frames aligning its walls. (complete with the russell terrier.)

not only do i love the deep colours, like the royal purple on mrs. cross’s bedroom walls, but i also love the 70′s-esque style, like the family barber shop, with those giant lightbulbs for christmas.

and maybe i just threw jason schwartzman in a waiter jacket in there for the heck of it.  it truly is the best scene in the film.

even the end where they’re celebrating max’s play and none of the decor seems to match, it somehow does– the palm trees, the bulb lights, the faces song “ooh la la.”  perfect.

i also love all of the club’s max is the president/captain of.  below are my favourites, but i actually screencapped all 20 clubs which you can view here (which i still can’t believe i did that, but they are all honestly worth looking at.  so funny!)

still my favourite wes anderson film.  so much charm.

“Oh are they?” — best quote in the film.

you can view some more screencaps (and all of the clubs) at my flickr page!
